Weekend Fun!

We had a lot of fun this weekend. It started Friday night with a girl's night out. My friend Megan, three of her friends, and I went to a Reckless Kelly concert. It was a lot of fun, but I stayed out way to late!!

On Saturday my mom and her friend, Gail, came to town so that Gail could help me decorate my living room. Gail sold furniture for 40 years and is a interior decorator so she gave me many good tips! She also went shopping with us. About four hours later I brought my goodies home and they look great! As soon as we get everything hung, I'll post some pictures!!

Today was another beautiful day, a little windy, but still beautiful. Justin was studying at the park, so Kendall and I surprised him with lunch! Next time I know to feed Kendall at home before we go! She was so busy playing, she didn't want to sit down and eat!! I literally had to hold and make her take a bite of sandwich each time she came down the slide!! This evening we went to dinner with some friends for Galan's birthday.
There were six adults and six little girls under the age of four!! We always get a few stares when we all go out!
No, these pictures have nothing to do with this post, but they are just to cute!!

Motorcross Fun!!

Let me start out by saying that I never had been a real big fan of motorcycles or dirt bikes. Especially dirt bikes!! I never understood why a guy (sometimes a girl) would want to go out and ride around in circles, jump in the air, get really really dirty, and potentially break multiple bones. I never understood that!

Then I met my husband. He loves motorcycles and dirt bikes. He owned both. Thankfully he just recently sold the dirt bike!! Justin's dad likes loves them too! They both love to watch the dirt bikes races on TV and keep up with all the standings! Justin's dad actually races from time to time! Thankfully he hasn't broken a bone, yet!

Well, every year the dirt bike Supercross Racing competition makes a stop in Houston, TX. For the last two years, Justin and I, along with his parents, have gone to watch. I was not very excited the first time around to go but I knew Justin would love it, so we went. And let me just say that I had a lot of fun! It was very loud (thank God for earplugs), very dusty, and very fun!! I never thought that I would like watching dirt bike racing, but I do! In fact, I'm already looking forward to next year!

This is James Stewart. Apparently he is one of the big wigs. However, the night we watched him, he crashed (right in front of us)  and didn't do so hot. He also has a reality show called Bubba's World. It's pretty good and makes me laugh. But don't tell my husband!!

So the moral of this post....remember to be open minded to new adventures! Someone may come into your life and show you something new, and you just may enjoy it. I still don't understand everything about the sport, but it is neat to watch sometimes. And I do like to watch Justin ride (when he is on a flat surface and isn't going full speed)!! But you will NOT ever see me ride. It's not because my husband hasn't tried. No, it's because I'm a mother and I think it would be really hard to chase a toddler around while wearing a body cast!!

Texas Tech Red Raiders!!

It wasn't until the last semester of my senior year in high school, that I decided to attend Texas Tech. Actually, I had always thought I would attend Texas A&M or West Texas A&M University. But I knew I wanted to go into the medical field and be closer to home. So I went to TTU and have never regretted that decision! I loved everything about college and especially Lubbock and Tech. I grew up in a small town so having a mall, Target, and a movie theater all in the same town was amazing to me!! I learned how to drive in traffic, that it takes longer than three minutes to get across town, and to be independent and go out and make friends. I met some wonderful girlfriends that I still talk to today! And during my last year at Tech, I met my husband!!

Texas Tech will always have a special place in our hearts.

I hope one day I will be a Red Raider Mom!!

Valentine's Day/Happy Birthday Kendall!

Confused by my title?? Well let me explain... this is a conversation that I had with Kendall on Sunday night when she found the drinks that I bought for her school party:
K: drinks Mommy?
M: yes, drinks. They are for your school party tomorrow.
K: ooohhh happy birthday Kendall!
M: no, it's not your birthday Kendall. It's Valentines Day!
K: (she then turns to Justin) happy birthday Kendall Daddy, drinks!
J: no, Kendall it's not your birthday. It's Valentines Day!

So the next morning we got ready for school and I attempted to take her picture before we left!

She is actually telling me No! in this picture!

Well, apparently Kendall still thought the day was all for her, because by the evening came around, she had two teachers at school and our neighbor's mother in law convinced that it was her birthday!!

Since we have to get up so early on weeknights, we thought we would just have a nice dinner at home as a family! Justin grilled steaks and then we opened our cards and gifts!!

Overall, it was a great Valentine's/Birthday Day!!

A Valentine Surprise!!

When Kendall and I got home this afternoon, Kendall had this wonderful surprise waiting for her!!

It was an Edible Arrangement from her Great Grandma Shirley!! Kendall was so excited she couldn't wait to get her hands on it! Honestly, so were Justin and I. That fruit was some of the freshest fruit that I have had in a long time! Every single grape was eaten in about two minutes by the Grape Monster (Kendall)!!

This is so much better than your typical fruit basket!!
Isn't it fun looking?

She loved pulling the fruit off the sticks! As you can see, eating fruit is a very serious matter!!

The pineapple was so juicy that it kept running down her chin!

Thank you Great Grandma very much for the special Valentine treat. We all loved it very much!!

A Working Mother's Beauty Tips:

Ok, so I wouldn't necessarily call them beauty tips, but more of a list of what I use!! Today is again Show Us Your Life Friday over at  Kelly's Korner, and today's theme is beauty tips!! Now, I'm not overly huge into beauty products, but I do try to take care of my skin and have discovered some great products along the way!!

I should start off by saying that I mostly use Mary Kay Products. In fact only my foundation and powder are from another company. I have used MK since Jr High and I absolutely love their products! If you are interested in using Mary Kay, I have a wonderful consultant Sandra Rowell that would love to have you as a customer. She is based out of Tennessee, but she will gladly ship your products and in a very timely manner!!

So now for the big reveal of the products!!

This is the eye make-up remover! This is the best MK product by far!
It will take off any eye make-up, even the hard water-proof mascara!

This is the Time-Wise 3-in-1 cleanser. I also love the Time-Wise Moisturizer.
These are great products!
These little things are an absolute must if you live in any kind of humidity!!
I pull one of these puppies out, blot it over my face, reapply some powder, and I look as
good as new! The best part is that these Oil Blotters won't take off your make-up!
This is the Mary Kay Microdermabrasion Set! This makes my face feel smooth as silk after
using this product! I received this product as a gift and it's one of my new favorites!!
I use many other Mary Kay products, but these are just a few of my favorites!

As for hair products, I use a lot of different shampoo and conditioners. I once heard that you should change the brand of shampoo that you use so that you won't get build up as bad. I have no idea if that is actually true or not!! But ever since I heard that, I have changed them out every so often!! Since I wear a hat all day every day at work, I try to let my hair air dry as much as possible! I use a round brush when I do dry it so that I don't have to use a flat iron as much!

I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's tips and hope to get some great ideas!!

The Weather....

Great title right?!?!? I know you all read that and are now sitting at the edges of your seats in great anticipation!! Well let me tell you this weather has been crazy!  One day  it is in the 70's and we are riding our bikes ejoying a beautiful day and the very next day it is in the 20's with a wind chill in the teens!!

Because we are now wearing hospital scrubs, I thought it would be a good idea to wear my workout clothes to work. That way I will be all ready for the gym when I leave work and therefore be motivated to actually go to the gym and to actually work out!! Just this morning I checked the weather and it said it was currently 45 degrees and the high would be 47 degrees. I thought well it's almost 50 and so I can get by wearing capri pants. Little did I know that when I walked out of the hospital at 3:00 this afternnon, it was going to be 24 degrees with a wind chill of 18 degrees!! Boy did I get some funny looks as I was walking to my car!!

I have decided that living in South Texas has made me turn into a weather sissie!! When I was in high school and living in Oklahoma, I remember lots of times when it was snowing and bitter cold and my track team was outside running!! I remember the wind blowing so hard, that it felt like you were running against a brick wall! I remember when it was in the upper 60's and I would be running around in shorts and t-shirt because it was hot!!

Now I can't get warm unless it's in the 70's and I don't even want to think about being outside let alone running in it!! All I want to do is take a hot shower and then curl up with a good book and my hot tea!! See, I told you I am now a weather sissie!!

With this terribly cold weather I have discovered something else....Kendall loves it!! She still wants to play outside and I have to carry her in kicking and screaming! She is dfinitely an outdoors girl...which she gets from her daddy!

Doesn't she look cute all bundled up??

Foods the Mack's Eat:

Kelly at Kelly's Corner is hosting Show Us Your Life Fridays and this week's topic is what your kids eat. I know, I'm one day late but I thought I would share anyway!!

April 2010

Meats:  Kendall is getting a lot better about meats. She loves steak and sausage! She will eat chicken but it has to be mixed with something else. She does love turkey deli meat. She loves to have it for a snack after school.

Fruits:  This is by far Kendall's favorite food group. She would eat nothing but fruit every day if I would let her! She loves oranges, grapes, strawberries, and peaches. Just recently she decided she liked bananas, but only if it is still in the peal. She won't touch it otherwise!! She loves applesauce but I'm trying her to eat fresh apples more.

Veggies: This is where it gets tough. She will eat green beans most days and sometimes corn. Her teachers at school tell me she likes broccoli, but Kendall hasn't shown me that yet!! I'm trying to incorporate more veggies into our meals and she has to eat at least one bite but usually that one bite is all the vegetable she eats!! When we go out to eat I just give her whatever I'm eating, so  a lot of times I'll order pasta with vegetables. I cut them up real small and mix them with the pasta. She tends to eat more of the veggies when I do it that way!

Breads: Kendall definitely takes after her mother is this category...she absolutely loves bread!! Whether it be tortillas, a slice of bread, or a muffin she will eat that first and ask for more!!

Snacks: She loves to have grapes for snacks. She also loves wheat thins, the vegetable Ritz crackers, cheese slices, yogurt, and granola.

July 2010

Other: Kendall also loves ravioli and oatmeal. She will ask for one or the other almost every day!! (She doesn't always get her way!!) She also loves pretty much any breakfast food: eggs, waffles, blueberry muffins. She loves milk!! She gets juice at school so I try to only give her milk and water here at home. Because of her heart condition, she can't have any caffeine. So I try to not have anything like that in the house. I do however still have my coffee in the morning!

Kendall is a very picky eater just like her parents were when they were kids. But I will say she is getting better and doesn't throw as many fits now at the dinner table!! We have the rule that everyone will eat the same meal and I really think that has helped her to try more foods!!
